The bombs signify the challenges that may distract you from your goal of moving towards mastery. If you choose the wrong book or get hit by a bomb, you will suffer a set back and will have to restart the game. But, the effort that you put into the game is directly tied to your ability to win the intrinsic motivation mastery game. Use left, right, up, and down arrows to move the character in the game.
